Born from friendships made on the soccer fields in San Francisco, Pangea Futbol Club is a powerful mix of cultures and rhythms on a single mission: Bring people together, through one heartbeat, the pulse and rhythm of music. The diverse members of the group hail from Madagascar, Iran, Italy, Chile, Argentina and the Bay Area; and each member brings his own particular musical nuance, knowledge and cultural flavor. Pangea’s infectious brand of world grooves, can travel from the streets of New Orleans to the mist covered peaks of the Andes to the sands of the Middle East, and back to beaches of Rio de Janeiro; all in a contagious blend of universal language, all the while criss-crossing borders and uniting cultures.
Pangea’s history and roots reach deep into the themes of sharing and community. They are part of a local SF International Soccer Family, which has been meeting to play once a week for almost 2 decades. The get-togethers bring people from all over the world together to play soccer, and after the game, enjoy the exchange of culture... and play music together. In 2007, after an afternoon of futbol, food and musica, founder Damian Nuñez, who had recently arrived from Argentina to pursue his masters in music at San Francisco State, noted that, like futbol, music can unify voices, blend community, and bring together disparate cultures, peoples and walks of life. And so from that simple notion, Pangea Futbol Club was born.
Since then, Pangea FC has become a staple at some of San Francisco’s oldest and lasting music venues; and has been spreading their contagious global vibe to esteemed Bay Area festivals and concerts, including San Francisco’s Carnaval, SF and Oakland’s International Workers’ Day March, SF Mission Arts Performance Project, San Francisco’s North Beach Festival, SF Cezar Chavez Festival among other venues.
